For those who do not know, a Power Hour is a magnificent invention by a person, or group of persons, to whom we owe much thanks. And at least two or three shots at the bar. What happens is that one person, or a group of people drinks one shot of beer a minute, every minute for 60 minutes, or an hour. Using a standard 1.5 oz. shot glass this works out to about 90 oz. of beer (or 7.5 cans) per person. A Power Hour is a great way to either start off or end a night, though ending a night with a Power Hour can prove to be problematic.

The tradition of the Power Hour is one that stretches far back into Nortonic History. In the beginning, we did not have the modern conveniences that we have now. We sat around, normally in silence or with a movie playing in the background, watching a digital clock for the changing of the minutes Needless to say, this did not work out very well, as one could easily skip a minute or two the drunker that they got. Or, conversely, drink more than one shot in a minute.

This happens no longer. With the Advance Norton Technology (ANT) now in place we are able to listen to snippets of our favorite songs while still participating in the joyous occasion of the Power Hour. The ANT allows for 60 songs that are about 1 minute in length to be played, with a bell at the end of each minute, so that each drinker knows that it is time to take their next drink. Another benefit of the ANT is that if the Power Hour Mix is backloaded with songs that many people know and are fun to sing, it allows for an even more enhanced Power Hour experience.

There are two major variations on the Power Hour: the Century Club and the dreaded Highlander. The Century Club is essentially the same as the Power Hour, the major differance being that it is a shot of beer a minute for 100 minutes instead of the 60 required for a Power Hour. The Highlander is a different beast all together. The more popular versions of the two, more popular because it is generally cheaper and ends in less violence and injury, is the Straight Beer version. The Straight Beer version has at least ten 7 minute rounds, in which each person takes a shot of beer a minute, with a minute break in between each round so that each contestant can rest/quit. The second version is the "Death" version. It works the same way as the Straight Beer version, except that there are two minute breaks in between each round where each contestant must either shotgun a beer or take a shot of liquor. Both versions are competitions, and end when there is only one contestant left. Neither is particularly a good idea. Nor is the Century Club for most people.
